Uses
What I use.
My daily stack for design and frontend. Not an exhaustive list — just what I genuinely use every week.
Hardware
- MacBook Pro 14" M3 Pro
Where almost all the work happens. 18GB of RAM, 1TB.
- LG UltraFine 4K 24"
Second monitor, so Figma and the browser fit side by side.
- Keychron K3 Pro
Low-profile mechanical — more comfortable than the laptop keyboard for long sessions.
- Logitech MX Master 3S
The smooth horizontal scroll makes a real difference in Figma.
Design
My default tool: UI, prototypes, specs, and design systems.
- FigJam
For discovery workshops, journey maps, and information architecture.
Tasks and roadmaps. Faster than Jira for small teams.
Design system documentation and research notes.
Development
My main editor, with GitHub Copilot and the Tailwind, ESLint, and Prettier extensions.
For when I work close to the edge of what I know technically.
- iTerm2 + Oh My Zsh
A terminal with decent autocomplete.
My public and private repositories.
Typefaces
For headings and body text. A variable font with weight and optical-size axes.
The editorial serif I use for accents and the blog. Variable too.
For code blocks.
Reading
- Refactoring UI · Adam Wathan & Steve Schoger
The book I most recommend to engineers who want to understand design.
- Shape Up · Basecamp
Good for discussing product cycles. Less so for following to the letter.
- Inspired · Marty Cagan
My mental model for product discovery and for understanding the product, design, and engineering roles.
